Launching orb-ui

Today I’m launching orb-ui. It’s a project that I’ve been working on in the background for the past couple weeks. Voice agents are still early and I want to build something for them before they become super main stream.

While many practical applications of voice agents today are just over the phone and are often used to spam people with sales and marketing calls, there is a better place for voice agents that act as assistants or just conversational partners. I believe that the UX for these will not use traditional mediums like phone calls. I think voice agents need to be visually presented.

The library as it is now is pretty small and simple. It’s also not quite as flexible as I’d like. This will change in the coming weeks. This is the kind of release where I just want to put something out there (maybe a little prematurely), then iterate on it. I’m hoping that orb-ui becomes more of a platform where people can publish and browse designs for voice agent UIs.

I’m just posting this launch on Twitter and HackerNews. Hopefully we get some feedback here, even if it’s negative. If we get any feedback or traction it will set us up to make improvements here and further develop this idea.
